Naphthalene concentrate production

19 Oct 2004

The new production unit “Naphthalene concentrate production” in CHEMOPETROL, a.s. Litvínov has successfully passed a guarantee test.

In October 2004, the construction of a new unit (“key-ready” supply) for naphthalene concentrate (NC) production was completed by the successful guarantee test in compliance with the time schedule of the development. The total construction period (from the proposal of the technological process up to NC production commencement) was 87 weeks. The development of NC production was financed by the NC consumer – DEZA Valašské Meziříčí company.

The NC production unit processes 3 to 6 t/hr of pyrolyzed gas oil (PGO) and produces NC with naphthalene concentration of 92 to 96% at the recovery factor 85 to 97%. PGO is stored in a new 200 m3 tank, from which it is injected to the NC producing plant. The dominating factor of the NC production plant are two vacuum distillation columns of 46 and 40 m of height and a three-storey technological structure. The NC produced is supplied through the outer overhead distribution system to a new expedition reservoir of 500 m3, from here, it is from the reconditioned shipping station filled into tank wagons using a tube. Modifications of the facility processing distilled lighter and heavier components for extra light heating oil used as a fuel for the EU power block are also part of the NC production technology.

The NC production has been integrated into the complex of the ethylene unit (EU) of CHEMOPETROL Litvínov. In connection with the integration of the NC production into the EU technological process, 85 piping connection points were carried out, 80% of which was carried out during the EU shut-down in 2003. The NC production is controlled from a new operating station at the EU control room, where the control system DCS (ABB MOD300 ADVANT) and the security system ESD (HIMA) were extended. In addition, there have been carried out modifications of control systems in the EU power block control rooms, the large reservoir field and the expedition station.
