Design and procurement of a filtration unit for the quench oil loop. The filtration unit removes solid coke particles without any necessity for shut down of the ethylene plant (EP). This system of filtration is the unique process, especially with respect to discharge of dry coke from the filters, with no negative impact to the environment and to health and safety. The process is designed and owned by Intecha.
The inlet stream is divided into two streams by means of hydrocyclones – to the main stream of clean quench oil, which goes to steam evaporators, and to a considerably smaller stream with concentrated solid coke particles, which follows to subsequent separation of coke from quench oil. The separation is carried out inside special coke process filters in a periodic regime. Filtered coke is dried after washing procedure, and it is sent as a dry solid material to incineration.
Installation of the coke removal unit increases EP efficiency, has significant energy and costs savings and increases operational life of the equipment. It further decreases operational costs and it reduces contamination of the environment. Incorporation of this process enables ethylene units to prolong operational cycles between shutdowns.
